As everyone is aware, Terry Rigney took over for Bob when it became necessary. He stepped up and he's done a wonderful job. I expect that Terry is more like 'family' to Bob's family than just 'friends.' Terry, I have to include you when I say my heart feels pain for you, too, as family.. Admin reply: Thanks, Mike...I really appreciate your comments here, as well as your excellent prose and poetry. Bob was of course special to us all, but yes, you are right...I knew him for about a year before we went to 3/27 and RVN, and we served again for six months in the same barracks until our RELAD after return to CONUS. He is indeed Family to me. Bob has always been very special to me and his presence in my life will be sorely missed until I end up again on his duty roster at the Valhalla all Marines will someday enter. I hope to see you at the service on Aug. 13, undoubtedly to be the toughest day of my life. Semper Fi to you and all of our Brothers / Heroes. Terry

Even while he was dealing with his own illness Bob was a great source of inspiration and encouragement to me while I have been going through my own treatment for esphogeal cancer. Bob was a true Marine brother to the end and he will be missed.

I was with sister 1/27 and did not know Bob personally but I knew of him and now know him in death...through his book and through Andy Boyko and Wesley Love my friends, companions and buddy's...and I did know him as I knew the Marines of 1968 Nam and the Go Noi TAOR... I know we have lost an outstanding Marine whom Chesty will muster at Heaven's Gate Parade Deck and they (Bob and Chesty along with the others) will be waiting on us to pass through and make final muster...God Speed, and Semper Fidelis Bob...!

For the Simonsens, Bob will be missed very much. Because of him a lot of us have been able to reconnect with our brother's in the 3/27 Marines. You will be in our prayer's.

Thank you all for the kind comments about this poem I wrote. I pray it gets to Bob's family somehow....and to Bob. I write a lot. Dozens of songs...Many, many poems about all of you. I sincerely mean this when I say that BOB PROBABLY WROTE THIS POEM AND USED ME AS A TOOL. It belongs to Bob and his family FIRST, and then to all of you. Bless his family in this terrible time of sorrow. (In my mind, that family includes you.)
