Your poem was a work of beauty. Your heart must have been breaking when you wrote it. I know mine was as I read it. You are one of the few people who have the ability to write from the HEART.Bob and your fellow Marines must be proud you were in their ranks.
Kevin

Mike, what a beautiful poem ....need I say it brings tears to ones eyes! I think that it would be a fine tribute to have it displayed at Bob's service in August, assuming you and the family approve. If I get the OK, I will take care of preparing it and bring it with me. Please let me know your thoughts. Semper Fi. Ron

Bob has now entered the "Life Triumphant" and lives in the home prepared for him by our heavenly Father. He lives! For as L. Mcrery reminds us in his poem titled "There is no Death"...
"And ever near us though unseen
The dear imortal spirits tread,
For all the boundless universe
Is life..."there are no dead."

My prayers are with Bob and his family at this time. May God's love envelope them and give them peace.

Doc Ostberg "L" Co.

ANOTHER EAGLE FLIES
An eagle landed outside my door and spread his wings this morning
His eyes transfixed upon my face, as if to give a warning
I stood in awe of this noble fowl, (that somehow showed no fear,)
And wondered why this majestic bird would land so very near?
We stood there, staring eye to eye, and neither of us flinched.
He stood his ground, as I stood mine, and never moved an inch.
Oh! What a blessed site to see! He stood so straight and proud!
I dare not move; there was no sound, 'cept my heart that beat so loud.
Did minutes pass? I cannot say. But, my mind began to wonder
Was it silence that we both heard here, or was it sounds of thunder?
Then suddenly I understood, as his head cocked so very slightly
And, I swear to God, I saw a teardrop fall, and land so very lightly.
How could this be? What could this be? An eagle cannot weep!
Is this my mind just playing tricks? Or am I really still asleep?
Then suddenly , witout a thought, I understood the tear...
The eagle bore a message, and he brought it to me here!
Another hero must have fallen, and God sent this king of prey
To tell me that the gates were open, and he would be with God today.
Then, the weight I felt upon my heart was lesser in degree,
Another hero up in heaven, another eagle flying free!

Dedicated to, and written for, Bob Simonsen, United States Marine

Without the foresight of Bob in creating this site, which I accidentally found a couple years ago, I would have never reconnected with many Marine Brothers.

Our hearts are saddened by the loss of Bob who meant so much to so many. May there be some comfort to Nan and her family knowing that someone so special as Bob will never be forgotten by his fellow Marines.

3/27 Marines. Bob's graveside service will be at Riverside National Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010 at 10:30 AM. This will be followed by a reception by Nan, and Erik at their home. Directions will be available after the service. Hotel recomendations are: the Marriott by Mission Inn on Market St., and Dynasty Suites on Iowa Ave. This will be our last chance to bit Bob a farewell. His permanent change of duty station has taken him to a higher Command. Please remember Bob, and his family in your prayers. He will be dearly missed by all. Semper Fi - Andy

My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to Bobs family as I know the pain and suffering that Bob went through. I personaly did not know Bob but I got all his books especially "Every Marine" as it helped me find out and get through what happened in that treeline on Operation Allenbrook and found out that Richard Buchanan helped us getout. My work where I retired from a few months ago read Bobs book and this week they are flying the flag at half staff in Memory of Bob!! Again our prayers are with his family at this time. Doc Jerry Eicholtz Semper Fi.

How did 3/27 get on the Map???For years I saw and read nothing but Hue and Kahsanh. Kept saying to myself what were we?? Nothing!!!!1 Then in a phone conversation with Bob he said he was going to write a book on us and wanted our specific individual information on what we saw and did on Operation Allenbrook. Then later expanded to info before and after. So I diligently wrote down what happened around me!!! Results are definitive: NO BOB! NO BOOK! SEMPER FI!!!! Bob Wes Love K Co.
