Three 27th Marines are going to Washington DC for Veterans Day 11 Nov and the Marine Corps Birthday 10 Nov. If you have never been, it should be on your bucket list and nows you chance.
I'm on the 11 Nov National Veterans Day Committee this year and have access to the Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetary and the gathering at the United Press Club after, plus seats for Marine Corps birthday and Marine Corps barracks ceremonies on the 10th.
Were planning to arrive at Washington-Dulles on the Nov 9 mid afternoon (around 3pm), and depart on the 12th late afternoon between 4-5 pm. We plan to move fast, eat and stay cheap (shared room w/tax about 80. night), use the Metro to see the monuments and get home safely. This is not a trip your wife would plan... Flights are cheap right now on Southwest, 99.00 right now from Ca and Or and Washington State, cheaper from Tx.

Mrs. Muncy...Thank you for reminding me what a REAL hero is. I am afraid sometimes I forget...then someone like you and your son pop up to remind me....Your son is not the only hero in your family...YOU are there with him...True heroes at home and abroad. Bless you, and know that there is a special place for people like you...

Thank you for sharing the story about your son. What an incredible inspiration he is to his country and fellow soldiers. The fact that he wants to return to combat shows just what kind of special person he truly is. Also, your reminder about fighting the VA for benefits should not go unheard. I continue to fight that my cancer (esophageal) will someday be included in the list of approved cancers which are linked to agent orange. Thanks again. Bob Simonsen

Hello All,

I wanted to share a little story with you on how far our Government(Military) has come since your days in Vietnam. As some of you know 4 years ago my son suffered a severe Traumatic Brain Injury, which left him on life support for many weeks and numerous years of rehabilitation, he is also blind in one eye. Today, he is with the Warriors Transition Unit at Ft. Campbell, KY. This week my son Mike has been notified that he will be Return To Duty, more than likely after his next surgery. His desire is to return back to a combat unit which looks like a very good possibility. He shoots better than ever and he is in the best physical shape since returning home from Iraq. The upside to this is our wounded soldiers are no longer throw aways, once injured. It is about time this Country realizes that just because someone is hurt does not mean they do not have anything to offer.

A little side note. For those of you who are trying to fight the VA system for benifits, keep fighting, it will pay off in the end. It is a frustrating process but hang in there. Also for those who may not know, in October 09 three new presumptive illness came down from exposure to Agent Orange they are as follows: B cell leukemias, Parkinson's disease, and ischemic heart disease. Pleae make sure if you have any of these diagnosis you file your claim ASAP.

It's been a long time sine I first signed on as I know many people have had problems so I changed my server to see if that makes a difference. If this goes through we'll know. Looking forward to the next reunion as many of us are. Many new people have found this website and as I read what they have to say, it's obvious that we made a difference in that hell hole and no one can be more proud than all of us who were part of the 3/27 and those who were part of Allen Brook all fighting for a common cause. The men we lost didn't die in vain because the ones who gave all were and are the reason we are still a unit today. The Gov't wrote us all off 43 years ago and the VA along with them; but we still fight for our benefits although some of us may never see the ones we deserve. We just have to keep fighting as we did before, as a unit to get what we deserve for the price we all paid. Semper Fi to my brothers and hope to see you in Texas.
Ron Osteen 3/27 India
